Jana DeBusk is an Actress, Recording Artist, Jazz Singer, World-Wanderer and University Professor. She received her BFA in Musical Theatre Performance from Western Michigan University where she played roles like "Kate" in the Wild Party and "Mama Euralie" in Once on this Island (for which she was nominated for an Irene Ryan Award). She was an actress at The Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan with roles like "Janet" in Rocky Horror and "Mazeppa" in Gypsy with Kim Zimmer. She was also a performer for the Rock and Country Show at Cedar Point before graduating as Presidential Scholar and moving to New York City. In New York, Jana expanded her musical experience and became a session singer for recording projects as well as a returning member of "Living For Today", a Broadway cabaret directed by David Alpert. She originated the role of "Scarlet Letter" in Superhero Celebrity Rehab (off-off-broadway) and toured the country with her rock band "Jana and the Bailout Boys".
After a particularly strong bout of wanderlust, she sold all her belongings and moved to Colombia where she began singing Latin Jazz. She then wandered over to The Netherlands where she completed her Master of Music in Vocal Jazz. Her research project, "Creating a Communication between Refugee, Expat and Local Women Using Vocal Improvisation" won 1st prize at the Fontys Music and Research Competition. She was also the Professor of American English Pronunciation for Jazz Vocalists at Amsterdam Conservatory and Maastricht Conservatory. Her group, "Jah Lous" played at International Jazz Festivals and toured all over Europe. Upon returning to Colombia, Jana continued teaching Private Voice, Solfege, and Musical Theatre at Camo Conservatory and Teatro Fundadores. She also formed Jazz4Women (and all-female jazz group) and was the singer in The Rowings (an all-female rock group).In the past year she has appeared in "Gorgeous: A Tribute to Barbara Harris" (NYC, Greenroom 42) and "Wanderlust: A Love Story" (NYC, Williamsburg Music Center). She is the lyricist for German Pop singer Maya Fadeeva and is a member of GEMA and ASCAP. She is stoked to come back to her Musical Theatre roots and guide the next generation to fly on free, powerful, and healthy singing habits.
